The "Pinchpoints to Possibilities" event, led by Ben Owens and Dominique Stone in partnership with EdNC, focused on discussing visions of student involvement in the fall and includes examples of student voice and social-emotional support from leaders and students at six schools.
The "Pinchpoints to Possibilities" event, in collaboration with EdNC, will feature a discussion on visions of student involvement for the upcoming fall. Set to occur on July 16 at 4 p.m., the event aims to explore the impacts of the COVID-19 crisis on schools and provide a problem-solving framework. Two key problem statements to be discussed are enabling more student voice and choice in school decision making and better addressing the social and emotional needs of all students, especially in virtual environments. Both educators and students from six schools will share innovative examples of student voice and/or meeting social-emotional needs. The participating schools include E.K. Powe Elementary School in Durham, Evergreen Community School in Asheville, Northeast Academy for Aerospace and Advanced Technologies in Elizabeth City, North/Phillips School of Innovation in Edgecombe County, Olympic High School in Charlotte, and Rowan-Salisbury School District. The event details are as follows: Thursday, July 16 from 4-5 p.m. You can sign up for the webinar using the provided link. The event seeks to emphasize the importance of involving students in decision-making processes to empower them and foster a sense of ownership in their education. The broader virtual event series aims to explore ways to amplify student voices within the educational system, allowing educators and students to delve into the possibilities of student voice in shaping education.
