Is your school a learning organization? That’s a question we love to ask teacher leaders, administrators, and other education stakeholders working to build cultures of true innovation in their schools.
This article by Ben Owens discusses the concept of being a learning organization according to Peter Senge's definition. It challenges the prevalent superficial innovations in education and emphasizes the necessity of a cultural shift towards slow, collaborative ideation for genuine innovation. It provides examples of schools worldwide that prioritize authentic innovation through cultural changes and offers recommendations for school transformation, such as avoiding patchwork initiatives and embracing strategic partnerships. The urgency for change in education and the call to action for education leaders to initiate the hard work of transforming their schools into genuine learning organizations are also emphasized. The article encourages educators to lead transformative initiatives and establish a culture of innovation in all North Carolina schools.
