Ben Owens, a teacher at the Early College in Murphy, N.C. has received the 2016 Outstanding Educator Award from the North Carolina Science, Mathematics, and Technology Education (SMT) Center. Mr. Owens was recognized on April 30 in Cary, N.C. at the annual SMT Celebration.
In 2016, Ben Owens, a teacher at Early College in Murphy, N.C., was honored with the Outstanding Educator Award by the North Carolina Science, Mathematics, and Technology Education (SMT) Center. This accolade recognized his outstanding vision for STEM education in the classroom, as well as his teaching style, which encourages student engagement and problem-solving. Colleague Ben Pendarvis highlighted Owens' background as an engineer and his dedication to empowering young people, emphasizing his belief that Owens fully embodies the qualities of an exceptional educator. The SMT Center itself is committed to enhancing education to equip all North Carolina students with the skills for prosperous careers, citizenship, and to drive the state's economy forward. Its focus on promoting innovation and educational excellence is reflected in its support for educators, engagement of students, and advocacy for the increasing significance of a STEM-focused workforce.
