Design Thinking

Human-centered Design to create collective innovation

WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE

The Human-Centered Design Process underlies everything OWL does - from co-designing lessons to co-creating strategies to get families more engaged through outside-the-box ways of sharing student data. OWL has a history of facilitating Design Sprints that are grounded in student and community empathy to define local problems, ideate and prioritize potential solutions, and use agile tools to prototype, test, and refine ideas. Design Sprint examples include...

>Helping two North Carolina districts design customized professional development for their teachers by working intensively with their community to identify the dreams of their youth.

>Helping a Connecticut district implement a common framework for experiential learning for all its schools that scaled from a small summer program to a cohort of over 60 teachers.

>"Re-thinking time” with a North Carolina district as they upgraded their approach to school calendars and schedules.

>Working with a Colorado school as they developed a learner-centered culture that matches their new, state-of-the-art facility.
